The Brooklyn Treatment Court is
located at 270 Broadway, New York, NY 10071.
The Court was first established in June of 1996.
The Court was established to help bring nonviolent drug offenders to an
alternative to jail. The program’s goals are to help reduce the number of
criminals in prison that are serving time with very dangerous men and women for
illegal drug usage. The Court is a
way for these nonviolent offenders to regain their lives.
Drug Treatment Court is not a
typical court. The setting is much
more relaxed. The Court is set up
to help by encouraging, which comes from the judge on down throughout the
treatment team. The Brooklyn
Treatment Court offers a variety of services to every individual involved in the
program. These services are
provided by various organizations that are linked to this program in an effort
to combat against drug addiction and other problems.
The Court provides programs ranging from medical treatment to psychological assessments. There is a resident nurse on site to provide primary health care to individuals in the program. Also, this particular treatment court has an alumni bureau that serves as an additional resource to the clients that are currently in the program. The Brooklyn Treatment Court is similar to most drug courts in its intake process. There is a screening to determine eligibility. Then there is a treatment recommendation, followed by close monitoring as each client beings the program. The Brooklyn Treatment Court is funded by the Department of Justice, the federal Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, the State Justice Institute, and the Fund for the City of New York.
