Welfare Worker |
The opportunities that are available under Welfare are as follows: Adjusters, Investigators, Collectors, and they provide a variety of services by acting as intermediaries with the public for different establishments. Some of the services would be overseeing problems, deciphering policies and regulations, settling disputed charges, and deciding if someone is entitled to governmental assistance or not. The positions available are claim representatives, insurance processing clerks, adjustment clerks, bill and account collectors, and welfare eligibility workers and interviewers. Various positions only require a high school diploma, but college graduates are required for the claim representatives, adjusters, and welfare eligibility worker or interviewer positions. The obvious places that you would find these occupations would be in insurance companies, hospitals, wholesale departments, and public assistance programs. I would like to focus on the welfare eligibility workers and interviewers, for they are the ones that decide if someone is eligible for governmental assistance or not, and they work closely with different public assistance programs. Many work in hospitals and physician offices providing aftercare plans for people that are eligible for assistance. The required qualities for this occupation are compassion and empathy, for the workers are dealing with individuals that are in difficult situations. The salaries for all of the positions mentioned fall between $22,000-$38,290. The insurance adjusters, examiners, and investigators are at the top, but the welfare eligibility workers and interviewers median salary is at $33,100. This is the highest that I have seen for anything relating to human services or social work.
