Occupation of Canaan Covenants Flood  Creation Chronicler Prophets

These links will take you to a series of exercises that have been designed to enhance your learning in Biblical Studies 130.  Several of them you will complete in class, so that you can discuss the results with other students and ask questions about your conclusions.

The Occupation of Canaan deals with the settlement of the Israelites in the land of Canaan and the evidence that we have, both biblical and other, to help explain how this group of people came to control this small, but historically significant, piece of the fertile crescent.

The Covenants chart illustrates some of the differences between the ideas associated with the covenant that was identified with Moses on Mount Sinai after the Exodus and those associated with the covenant that was identified with David and the monarchy that he established and centered around Jerusalem and Mount Zion.

The Flood exercise illustrates the kind of problem that led to development of the Documentary Hypothesis.

The Creation exercise compares two different versions of how things came to be and asks questions about the reasons for the differences.

The Prophets chart helps put the prophetic message into its original context by connecting the writings  to particular historical situations.

The Chronicler chart compares the Deuteronomistic History with the Chronicler's History.

Three-level reading guide for Isaiah 7 looks carefully at the Immanuel prophecy.
