Brief course description: This course provides a survey of the structure and function of the human integumentary, nervous, skeletal, and muscular systems.  An introduction to cells and tissues is included at the beginning of the course.  Laboratory work involves examination of models, skeletons, histology slides, and mammalian dissections.

 Course Objectives:

1.      To familiarize students with the hierarchical arrangement of the human body, from cells to systems.

2.      To familiarize students with structures and functions of the following human systems: integumentary, nervous, skeletal, and muscular.

3.      In the laboratory, to examine each system from the level of the cell (through histology) to the system.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance at all exams and laboratories is mandatory.  Only valid excuses corroborated by written evidence (from a doctor) will be considered for make-up exams.  There will be no make up labs.  An unexcused missed exam will be scored as a 0, and an unexcused lab will result in a 0 for the daily quiz and a 10% reduction of the Lab Workbook/Procedures grade.       Late assignments will be penalized 10% per day late.

Cheating:

Any student caught cheating on an exam or quiz, or plagiarizing lab work will receive a failing grade for the course.

Grading:

              12 Lab Quizzes (Drop Lowest*) @ 2% each......................... 22%

              Lab Workbook/Procedures................................................... 11%

              4 Lecture Exams @ 13% each............................................... 52%

              Cumulative Final..................................................................... 15%

                                                                                                            100%

Lecture Exam Format:

Each lecture exam will consist of four parts: multiple choice, diagrams/labeling/tables, short answer, and a lab practical.

*You may only drop the lowest quiz that you take.  A missed quiz counts as a zero and  will not be dropped as the lowest.
