The Maryville College Concert Choir

The Concert Choir is an auditioned ensemble of 50 singers, which performs choral literature of many styles. Emphasis is on musicality, education and appropriate historical style for an academic approach appropriate for the Liberal Arts setting of Maryville College. This ensemble serves as the main liaison between the College and various church and school communities, both locally and in the north and southeast. The choir goes on tour every spring break performing at churches and high schools. Recent tour destinations include Chicago, IL, Charleston, SC, Daytona Beach, FL, New York, NY and New Orleans, LA. The 2008 Spring Choir Tour featured an international tour, a "Scots-American Musical Journey", to Scotland where the choir performed at St. Giles Cathedral, the Church of the Holy Rude, Iona Abbey and Sterling Castle. Scholarship positions are available.

Off Kilter

Off Kilter is an auditioned ensemble of 8-12 singers, generally comprised of upperclassmen. Emphasis is on small ensemble singing. Literature consists of music written specifically for this genre, such as vocal jazz arrangements and the King Singer's Collection. The repertoire includes a variety of texts, from choral arrangements of popular and jazz literature to P.D.Q. Bach. "Off Kilter" performs at banquets, conferences and social events for the College and in the local area. The 2008 Concert Season included a performance at a workshop for the King’s Singers in Huntville, AL. Members must also be in the Concert Choir.

The Maryville College Community Chorus

The Community Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble of 50-75 singers, which performs large choral works. Emphasis is on historical style, community relations and enjoyment in the musical process. This ensemble is made up of college students as well as volunteer singers from the Maryville/Alcoa/Knoxville community. Past works include W.A. Mozart's "Requiem," Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols," Camille Saint-Saens' "Christmas Oratoriao," John Rutter's "Gloria" and "Requeim" and the "Mass in C" by Beethoven in a joint concert with the Knoxville Choral Society at the Tennessee Theatre. 2008 Concert Season included the "Mass in C" by Joseph Haydn and “An Evening of Opera Choruses, Arias and Overtures” with the Orchestra at Maryville. Guest conductor for the 2008-09 Concert Season is Alan Eleazer, alan.eleazer@maryvillecollege.edu Scholarship positions are available.

The Maryville College Youth Chorale

The MC Youth Chorale is an auditioned ensemble of 20-30 young singers, age 9-13, from the Blount and Knox communities that rehearses once a week on the College campus. Literature consists of music appropriate for the young voice. The director of the ensemble is Martha Robinson, Music Specialist at Maryville Intermediate School. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester.
