The Humanities Division has one purpose: to open the minds of students and faculty to critical appraisal of the past and to the possibility of change. We encourage the process of careful evaluation and judgment through our use of study, persuasion, debate, and, to some extent, example. All other functions of the Division support this overarching purpose.
Dr. Susan Schneibel is the Division Chair of Humanities at Maryville College. She can be contacted here. For more information about the diverse and talented group of people who comprise the Division of Humanities Faculty, read the faculty page.
Creative Writing About the Environment is an online magazine designed to encourage Maryville College students from all disciplines to learn about and to produce creative writing which is either about the environment (nature) or which uses the natural world as a vital component, such as a work's setting or sense of place.
Understanding and appreciating world cultures is a core element in the Maryville College curriculum. Over the past few years, special courses in the Humanities Division, study trips, have been arranged to provide for this emphasis experientially.
