A primary source of data online, this web
site provides access to a tremendous amount of information collected
by the Census Bureau. The site can be navigated with "quick jump"
links, an A to Z subject index, or by entering search terms. Two valuable
features of the site are highlighted below; they can be accessed from
the links below or from the Census homepage. Note that there is some
overlap among the various offerings of the site; that is, you can find
the same data/information in more than one place.

Provides useful facts and information
about your community, economy, and society via
Community Profiles, Quick Tables, Detailed Tables, Maps, and Customized
Queries. American FactFinder lets you search, browse, retrieve, view,
print, save, and download data from Census data summary files such as
the 2000 Decennial Census Detailed Files, American Community Survey
Summary Tables, and Economic Census Summary Files.
- State and County QuickFacts http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/index.html
Allows you to select a state or county
on a map and view summary files of population,
demographic, and housing data; population estimates from past years;
income and poverty estimates; county business patterns; Economic Census
data; and general county profiles. You can also view a Tiger map
of an area of interest.

The National Center for Health
Statistics' Web site, is a rich source of information about America's
health. As the Nation's principal health statistics agency, the centers
compiles statistical information to guide actions and policies to improve
the health of the nation's people. The Center's health
statistics aim to: document the health status of the population and
of important subgroups and; identify disparities in health status and
use of health care by race, ethnicity, SES, region, and other population
gradients

The National Center for Education
Statistics is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing
data that are related to education in the United States and other nations.
- Tennesse
Burea of Investigation Crime Statistics http://www.tbi.state.tn.us
The TBI is the state's primary
criminal investigative agency, responsible for managing the states three
crime labs and investigating crimes related to illegal drugs, fugitives,
public corruption, official misconduct, organized crime, domestic terrorism,
Medicaid fraud and patient abuse.

be found by following the link "Reports." Other state's
data may be found by visiting the state's homepage. The URL for
states is http://www.state.XX.us
where the XX equals the state's 2 letter abbreviation.
- Federal Bureau of Investigation Uniform
Crime Reports http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm
The FBI produces several reports on crime in the United States, hate
crime statistics, and other crime statistics. Most of the reporting
is for cities with populations over 100,000.
- Center for Business and Economic Research
at the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee

Produces and disseminates new information in the areas of economic research,
economic development, regional economics, and fiscal policy. Selecting
the Data link in the Table of Contents brings up a list of Tennessee
reports and data files in various formats that can be viewed or downloaded.
Of note are the Personal Income Data, Population Estimates, and Poverty
Data by School District.
