Style Manual - Purpose and Rationale
These guidelines for citing online resources were developed after Maryville College gained access to several full-text databases. These include Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe, InfoTrac Web, JSTOR, and the electronic Human Relations Area File (eHRAF). Although the major style guides (MLA, APA, Turabian) provide rules and examples for citing various online resources, we feel additional instructions and examples are needed. We believe this additional information will provide a more complete citation that will enable faculty, librarians, students, and other researchers to verify cited resources.
Our goal is to educate students about the importance of accurate bibliographic information and to promote consistency across campus in the method students cite these resources.
The faculty at Maryville College adopted these guidelines for college wide use.
