Directions:  During this exam time, please complete the information listed below.  Complete all work on the separate paper provided by Dr. O’Gorman.  You must sign & turn in this exam sheet to receive credit, along with validation of not giving or receiving aid during this exam.    Good Luck!

 

 

SECTION ONE:  Short Answer – 10 questions=40 Points

         Please write a short one-paragraph answer that defines the term you have chosen to answer, explains its importance to environmental issues, and then discusses how this term could be seen/perceived in both positive and negative terms.  REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN ACRONYMS AND YOUR ANALYSIS how each answer can be environmentally explained in multiple ways (“pluses and minuses – or pro and con – or how an anthropocentric versus a ecocentric would respond”).  BE SURE TO ANSWER THE CORRECT NUMBER OF QUESTIONS FOR EACH SUBSECTION.

SECTION TWO:  One Essay – 40 Points

Be sure to write a thoughtful essay that explains your answer AND USES EXAMPLES FROM THE COURSE in order to show your mastery of the class material.

 

·       You will have some choice in the forty- point essay question.

·       An “A” essay will provide multiple examples and material from the entire course. 

·       And an “A” essay will show you have read the material in the course.

 

 

 

SECTION THREE _ APPLIED WORK  20 Points - Please answer all questions listed below, in the format required.

           

Some fill in the blank, some lists, maybe a requirement to draw a figure or graph – ALL FROM THE FINAL 1/3rd OF THE COURSE – will be in this section.

 

 

THE FINAL EXAM:

 

·     Cumulative Final Exam, with emphasis on the final 1/3rd of the course (material since the last exam).

 

·     The Exam is worth twenty five percent (25%) of your course grade. 

 

·     The Exam will cover: 

·    For the final 1/3rd section of the exam:  Chapters 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 in Principles of Environmental Science:  Inquiry and Applications.

·    The three sets of pages listed in the syllabus from Listening to Earth.

·    The usgbc.org, caiso.com and greenpowerswitch websites.

·    From the entire course:  ALL class notes, readings and discussions

·    The first two exams.

 

 

 

Reviewing your old exams is a good place to start, in order to understand material that was important enough to be tested once…and may be tested again!

 

LOOK TO MAKE CONNECTIONS – this material, although separated artificially by our text, does integrate.  Find ways in your answers (especially your essay) to discuss such connections (Ex.  What are the connections between wetland issues and wastewater treatment facilities?  Why is environmental philosophy important in understanding Superfund?  How can organic foods and hazardous waste be related?    How does energy use and biocentrism integrate environmentally?  Why are population, natural science and environmental art related?)

 

USE THE EXTRA TIME IN THIS FINAL EXAM TO TAKE A MOMENT OR TWO TO ORGANIZE YOUR THOUGHTS.  (write out an outline of your essay before you write the essay is a good way to use the extra time).
