Our plan is to meet prior to travel to examine issues and information for travel. We will have a reading list to help in our discussions.

We plan to travel to VietNam January 6- 20. We will visit Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Mekong Delta.

We will meet one more time at the Tet Celebration (Vietnamese Lunar New Year -- sponsored by local Vietnamese) in Knoxville. The date will be announced. Click here for information about TET.

We will also hear a presentation on The Vietnamese Calendar: Secular and Religious Holidays.

* Saigon South Project: a new urban centre developing in parallel with the existing centre
and plays an integral part in the development of Ho Chi Minh City. The
master plan of the project was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
from San Francisco with assistance from Koetter, Kim & Associates from
Boston, and Kenzo Tange Associates from Tokyo. The project is 4 km from
HCMC’s District1, the downtown of old Saigon.


Cost

Total cost of the trip is $2,600 (for non-Maryville College students). First nonrefundable payment of $1,800 is due by August 13th and a final nonrefundable payment of $800 is due by September 13th.

Total cost of the trip for Maryville College students is $1,900. A deposit of $100 is due by May 6, 2002. First nonrefundable payment of $1,200 is due September 15, 2002 and a final nonrefundable payment of $700 is due by November 1, 2002.

Price includes round-trip airfare from Knoxville, ground and in-country travel, entrance fees, and hotel rooms. Breakfasts and lunches and 3 dinners are also included in your fee -- you will need to pay for 8 dinners (~ $10-$15 per dinner). You will need to have current passport and obtain Visa and travel insurance.

Students may apply for scholarship funds from the TRAAVEL Fund to help support the cost of the trip. There is an early deadline for receiving the applications. See Dr. Berry for more information and click here for an application. The application needs to be given to Dr. Berry by April 19th!
